It’s officially spring, although many of us are wondering when it will feel that way! Our March PTO meeting was rescheduled because of our second March nor’easter, but we still managed to get excited about all the warm-weather activities we have coming up!
Safe School Procedures
If you couldn’t make it out for our March meeting, you missed a great and informative session from school guidance counselor, Joanne Dufour, regarding procedures for lockdown drills and active shooter situations. Drills are held twice a year and it is explained to students that while a fire drill practices getting out of the building safely and quickly, a lockdown drill practices staying inside the school for safety. Ms. Dufour also provided some valuable suggestions for talking to your kids about difficult topics:
- Model calm for your children. Remember that while certain threats are possible, they aren’t necessarily probable.
- Remind students that the teachers, staff, and administration is there to keep them safe in an emergency.
- Visit the National Association of School Psychologists website for more useful tips and information.
Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Dufour or Mr. O’Connell with any questions or concerns you have about your child’s safety at school, or any other concern you might have.
The PTO voted to provide $350 toward two Kindergarten field trips this spring, significantly reducing the price of each field trip for families. Contact your child’s teacher for any questions or concerns you have about the field trips, payment, or volunteering.
We had a great Kindergarten registration night at LCS in March, and we hope you stopped by to say hello to the PTO while you were there. We will hold a “Yahoo/Boo-Hoo Coffee” for parents on the first day of school in the fall! Come to Nelson’s Cafe on Main Street in Wilton, mingle with other parents, and meet our PTO members. Make sure you are on our email list to stay informed about this brand new event.
Kindergarten registration continues through May 2. Just stop by the Lyndeborough Central School office to enroll your child. Find details and paperwork on the SAU website.
Spring means lots of fun at our schools! From field trips to assemblies to Field Day and Step Up Day, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
State Testing Popcorn Popping (Starting April 16-20)
Help us pop a popcorn treat for our hardworking students participating in the state testing. This is a big effort, but the kids LOVED it last year and have already been asking if we are doing it again this year! Sign up here.
Staff Appreciation Week (April 30-May 4)
Each year we show our appreciation for our teachers, staff, and administrators by providing breakfast and lunch each day during the first week of May. Contact BJ Witt (firstname.lastname@example.org) to volunteer to bring a sweet or savory treat.
Pre-K & K Book Fair at Lyndeborough Central School (May 7-11)
Join us for the Paws for Books Book Fair at Lyndeborough Central School. Students will have the opportunity to shop during school and we will have evening shopping for families as well. Watch for our All For Books donation boxes at local businesses in the next few weeks. Your spare change can help provide books to students and classrooms!
