The FRES Read-A-Thon is a great way to help kids create healthy reading habits for a lifetime of benefit. While this is a PTO fundraiser, kids can also win prizes just for reading, so there’s no reason not to join the fun. Plus, students are already reading at home as part of homework, so why not win prizes for it?
Your FRES student should bring home a Read-A-Thon Fundraiser flyer this week. It contains:
- information sheet
- permission slip to have 99pledges fundraising page
- reading tracker
- cash donation tracker
*Need a new one? Print one here: Readathon Flyer
Every student who participates by reading will receive a free gift. Students who read the greatest number of minutes will have an opportunity to tape Principal O’Connell to the wall! Students also receive prizes for every $50 in monetary donations they collect!
Once we have processed your permission slip, you will receive an email with your child’s custom page. Their page can also be located by the search button on our main fundraising page. Be sure to collect donations through your child’s custom page to insure they are counted toward prizes and rewards.
Please return the permission slip by October 4. Participating students will receive their free gift the week of October 8.
Start tracking your reading on the Reading Tracker October 6.
Read-A-Thon ends October 20. Please return all cash donations and Reading Tracker no later than October 20.
Cash-donation prizes will be distributed after the Read-A-Thon ends.
Do I have to collect money to participate? No. You can participate by tracking your reading only.
Why do I need to fill out the permission slip to participate? The permission slip gives the PTO permission to create a custom 99Pledges fundraising page so your child can collect donations online through social media and email (with your support). The PTO will create customized fundraising pages for your student(s) and send them to the email(s) you provide.
Is the Read-A-Thon part of the Scholastic Book Fair? No. While a portion of the funds raised during the Read-A-Thon will be used to provide free book vouchers to all FRES students to use during the book fair, the rest of the money goes into the PTO’s general fund for field trips, equipment, assemblies, and more.
Do students have to fill out the Read-A-Thon Tracker even if they are keeping a reading log for their classroom teachers? Yes. The Read-A-Thon complements the school curriculum, but is run separately by the PTO.
How do I use the 99Pledges Fundraising Page?
Share your 99Pledges fundraising page with your email contacts and on social media. Your contacts can make one-time donations of any amount through your student’s page. Your student will automatically get credit toward prizes and rewards for money raised through their page.
What if I collect cash?
Collect cash and checks and log each donation on the Cash Donation Tracker. Return the form and donations to the front office by October 20, and your child will receive credit for the money they raised before prizes are awarded.
